BYU Sports Camps, a division of the BYU Athletic Department, announced the dates for the 2nd BYU Rugby Sports Camp to be held June 11th-14th on the campus of BYU.

BYU held the first-ever rugby camp last year and had over 75 young men attend from all over the country and plans on an even larger group in 2012 said BYU head coach David Smyth.

“Last year’s camp was a great success,” Smyth said, “But with the feedback we’ve had and our conversations with BYU we expect more players to attend this year’s camp.”

The increased size of the camp shouldn’t take away from the player’s experience Smyth said.

“We had a great time last year with all of the players,” Smyth said, “Having more kids will actually make the experience better for the kids as we’ll be able to do more training based on age and skill level.”

Parents and players can go to the BYU Sports Camp website and click on the Rugby Camp to register and for camp information.

Players have the option of being an campus or a day-camper attendee with the former option the player will stay and eat at BYU campus housing and cafeterias.

With the increased camp size expected and limited on-campus housing Smyth noted players and parents will want to enroll early to ensure they reserve their spot for the BYU Rugby Sports Camp.

“BYU does have limited housing available for sports camps,” Smyth said, “We’re not the only camp that deals with this. So parents and players will want to sign up early to make sure if they want to do the on-campus housing.

Smyth noted the coaching staff and players are looking forward to the forthcoming camp.

“We’re excited to see many of the players from last years camp,” he said,”And more new faces at this year’s camp. It’s going to be another great experience.”
