USA Women’s Eagle Sevens head coach, Ric Suggitt, has confirmed the squad that will compete in the 2012 USA Women’s International Sevens tournament starting Friday (February 10, 2012) in Las Vegas.
All of the players that signed training contracts with USA Rugby will compete in the tournament with either the Eagles or the USA developmental team, the Stars and Stripes.
Deven Owsiany, who recently signed a full-time training contract with USA Rugby, has been named the captain of the side, a vote of confidence for the talented youngster.
Suggitt has made several changes to the USA squad that travelled to Dubai in December 2011. Cup semifinalists in that tournament, the USA are looking to come out strong against pool opponents Japan, France, and Canada’s developmental squad.
C.J. Hildreth and Victoria Folayan join the USA squad and bring considerable physicality and experience into the fray. New York standout Vanesha McGee has also been added to the team. McGee’s combination of power and pace will be a welcome addition to the team.
Lauren Hoeck and Cristina Mastrangelo round out the changes from the Dubai team. Hoeck has been in the national team mix since 2007 and has several National Championships under her belt.
The Stars and Stripes team has some exciting young talent, including UNC- Chapel Hill star Kimber Rozier who will share the captain duties with Navy standout Jane Paar.
